Sunday’s sermon reminded me of something we so often know in our heads, yet struggle to truly believe in our hearts: how deeply valuable we are to God.
Not in the shallow way the world speaks about worth.
Not in the “love yourself more” kind of way. But in the holy, grounding, soul-settling truth that the Creator of the universe knows you personally and values you intentionally.
Jesus said in Luke 12:6–7,
“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
Pause there for a moment.
The God who hung stars in the sky counts the hairs on your head. The God who notices sparrows notices your tears.
The God who sustains the earth knows every detail of your heart.
That is not poetry for comfort.
That is Scripture.
That is truth.
We live in a world that constantly attaches value to performance. To beauty. To influence. To money. To success. To productivity. We are taught from every direction that our worth is something to earn, prove, maintain, or protect.
But heaven has never measured you that way.
Your value was never assigned by people. It was never determined by what you achieve. It was never lessened by what you lost. It was never damaged by your mistakes.
Your value was established when God created you in His image. It was affirmed when Jesus went to the cross for you. And it is sustained every single day by a Father who does not forget what He has made.
Psalm 139 says, “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Fearfully. Wonderfully. Intentionally.
You were not an accident.
You were not an afterthought.
You were not assembled carelessly. And if that was not enough, Scripture goes even deeper.
God says in Jeremiah 31:3,
“I have loved you with an everlasting love.” An everlasting love.
That means before you ever drew breath, He loved you.
Before you ever succeeded, He loved you. Before you ever failed, He loved you.
Before the foundations of the earth were laid, His heart was set toward you. Before time itself began, He loved you.
Let that sink into the places in you that still question your worth. Before anyone rejected you, He chose you.
Before anyone wounded you, He knew you. Before anyone misunderstood you, He understood you fully.
Before your story ever began, He loved you completely. So if your heart needs reminding today, here it is:
You are not forgotten.
You are not unseen.
You are not too broken.
You are not too much.
You are not behind.
You are not disqualified.
You are deeply known.
Fully loved.
Intentionally created.
And eternally valued.
Not because of who you are on your own but because of whose you are.
He has loved you before time.
And He will love you long after it ends.
