The Weight of a Word

This past Sunday, Pastor Matt preached a powerful word on limitation. You know, the way we speak that quietly shapes the world we live in…
Not what’s around us.
What comes *out* of us.
“I can’t.”
“It won’t work.”
“I have nothing.”
And slowly, without even noticing, we start living inside the boundaries of those words.
In 2 Kings 4 there’s a widow, desperate and on the edge of losing everything, and she comes to the prophet Elisha.
He asks her,
“What do you have in your house?”
She answers,
“Nothing… except a small jar of oil.”
*Nothing*… except.
That line exposes something in all of us. We lead with lack.
We define ourselves by what we don’t have. We speak emptiness before we acknowledge what God has already placed in our hands.
But heaven never needed “everything.” It has always moved through “something.”
That small jar?
It became overflow.
Provision.
Freedom.
Our words are not casual.
They are agreements.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Prov 18:21)
We don’t necessarily control everything… but we choose what we align with.
Fear… or faith.
Lack… or trust.
Limitation… or possibility through God.
I’ve felt it too… those moments where everything looks empty. Where the natural response is,
“There’s nothing here.” But something shifts when you pause… and ask a better question:
“God, what is in my hand?”
Because there is always something. And when your words begin to reflect that truth, something in the atmosphere shifts… spiritually.
Your posture changes.
Your faith rises.
Your eyes open.
Even Jesus never echoed limitation. He spoke what heaven was saying.
Always. And maybe that’s the invitation for us too.
Today I choose my words with intention. I will not speak lack where God has placed provision. I will not agree with fear when God has already spoken promise.
Even when I do not see the way, I will say there is a way.
Even when I feel empty,
I will declare there is something in my hand.
My words will align with truth.
My voice will not limit what God is able to do.
I am not without.
I am not empty.
I am not stuck.
God is at work.
And I will speak like it.

Love you
